Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel met in 1953 while at school in Queens. Together, they formed the folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, becoming one of the best-selling groups of the 1960s. His father Louis Simon was a bandleader who had already appeared on TV shows including The Jackie Gleason Show when the family moved to Queens, New York when Paul was around four years old. In 1957, they decided to try singing as a duo under the name Tom & Jerry. Their first single, "Hey Schoolgirl," was a Top 50 hit - not bad considering they were still just 16 years old.
