HEADLINE: Hurricane Danielle gaining strength in Atlantic CAPTION: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are tracking twin storm systems in the Atlantic. Hurricane Danielle is strengthening far out over the Atlantic, while a tropical depression behind it is expected to be upgraded to a tropical storm. (Aug. 25) SOT James Franklin, hurricane specialist, National Hurricane Center: "We have two tropical cyclones right now, Hurricane Danielle, a category 1 hurricane, and a new tropical depression, tropical depression 7, which has just formed in the far east tropical Atlantic. SOT: James Franklin, hurricane specialist, National Hurricane Center: We have a little bit of wind shear that's been affecting Hurricane Danielle over the past couple of days, it's been strengthening, then weakening. We expect over the next day or two for that wind shear to diminish a little bit more and so we think Danielle we have an opportunity to re-strengthen again, become perhaps a category 2 hurricane over the next couple days. The tropical depression looks like it's in a very favorable environment, with very very warm waters, relatively low wind shear, we expect that to become a tropical storm, probably this afternoon, and then likely go on and become a hurricane over the next two, three, or four days. SOT: James Franklin, hurricane specialist, National Hurricane Center: "this is the time of year when things get going. Right now, if tropical depression 7 becomes a storm, that would be the fifth storm, and that would put us about a week ahead of schedule in terms of when we normally expect the fifth named storm. And for hurricanes, we have two, and we're running five or six days ahead of schedule for that as well.
